Loss Control Specialist Helps School Districts Develop Videos Promoting Year-End Safety

Just as we trust the educators in our schools to be experts in the curriculum they teach to students, as one of our education customers, you’ve entrusted United Heartland to be experts at helping keep your teachers and staff safe throughout the school year. To help school districts make sure their teachers were staying safe while cleaning up their rooms for the summer, one of our senior loss control specialists developed a short video script that schools could use to send a quick but effective message to their teams.

The first district to use it was Sioux City Community Schools in Sioux City, Iowa. Their video featured current students reminding teachers to avoid using chairs, tables or windowsills while taking down classroom decorations and to use ladders instead so that the teachers could enjoy their summer just like the students were. The 60-second video was eventually shared within the district.

Our UH specialist then shared it with Council Bluffs Community School District in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where they made their own version and then eventually Linn-Mar Community Schools in Marion, Iowa. They were able to use the best elements of both previous videos to craft their final product which featured students from throughout the district.

This is just one small example of the many ways United Heartland’s Loss Control team works with our education customers to help them keep safety top of mind throughout the school year. Another way is through the use of “Tools for Schools,” a safety and health resource for K-12 public and private school district employees available exclusively to our United Heartland customers. It offers guidance on a wide variety of issues and safety risks that employees and administrators in school districts face.
