United Heartland Examines Risks Facing the Social Service Segment
More workers are injured in the social service and health care industry than any other. In 2014, this segment had 164,440 days-away-from-work incidents, the most of any private sector industry and nearly 40,000 more than the next closest industry sector – manufacturing.
As a subset of this segment, social service and nonprofit work encompasses a wide variety of jobs and careers, including child care workers, home health aides, personal care aides, rehabilitation counselors, social workers, and substance abuse and behavioral disorder counselors. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that employment in this field will grow 10% from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations. This means that injuries are likely to increase as well.
To that end, United Heartland is committed to helping our social service customers keep their employees safe on the job through dedicated, expert loss control service. Our Social Service Loss Control Campaign examines the hazards that can arise in this segment as these workers attempt to serve the varied needs of their clients. Some of the topics covered include:
- Safe Client Transfer and Assistance
- Behavior Management and Personal Safety
- Motor Vehicle Safety
- Slip, Trip and Fall Prevention
Downloadable materials, including flyers and other collateral, are provided for each topic. We encourage you to bookmark this page so you can easily access this resource in the future. We’re confident the resources and information will help you and your employees serve your customers better and help you work safer.
